Join Fight for $15 and Fairness UofT, CUPE3902 Flying Squad, OPIRG Toronto, and Leap UofT for a solidarity picnic to support the #justice4foodsters campaign! Foodora Couriers want to unionize and take on the gig economy. They are fighting for respect as workers, better protections for their safety given the high rate of injuries of delivering food, and to be paid fairly for the dangerous work they do. As students at UofT who often work multiple, low-paying, part-time gigs to pay off tuition fees and OSAP loans, we also know the harms of precarious work. We stand with the #foodsters in their struggle.
Come out on May 31st at 12:00 PM for a #FoodsterFriday Solidarity Picnic as part of their “Love your Local Foodster Order-In” Days of Action! We’ll be making multiple orders from Foodora so that we can 1) have a conversation with foodora couriers about their drive to unionize and share materials, 2) write messages in support of the couriers in the feedback section of our Foodora orders, 3) add a generous tip to appreciate the labour of Foodsters, and 4) leaflet campus members who pass by! And of course, it’s almost officially summer so we’ll be jamming to some tunes and enjoying each other’s company over some delicious eats. (All food will be provided for free!)
Check out the Foodsters’ website for more: https://foodstersunited.ca
Date: Friday May 31
Time: 12:00-2:00 PM
Location: Grassy area on South West corner of Harbord and St. George (just across Robarts Library)
*Access Notes*
This action will take place across from Robarts Library (130 St. George St), on the South West corner of the St. George St. and Harbord St. intersection on UofT campus. The area where we will have picnic mats is a triangular grassy area that has an inch of stones in order to step onto the grass. We will be spread out on this grassy area, as well as the pavement around it which is accessible by wheelchair. There are washrooms located in both the Robarts Library building across from us and the Ramsay Wright building to the south of us. Ramsay Wright has a powered door accessible by ramp and stairs. The nearest TTC station is Spadina, which has elevators on the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth platform. Please message us if you have any questions or concerns!
