✊We're organizing this summer! ✊
This school year has seen attacks by the PC government on many fronts. Doug Ford has continued his assault on our labour rights by overturning hard-won labour protections through Bill 47, making it harder for workers to be paid for overtime through Bill 66, cutting $11 million from the Ministry of Labour, as well as scrapping billions from vital sectors (namely post-secondary education and legal aid for immigrants and refugees). In the midst of all of this, however, we have protected modest but important gains, such as the minimum wage increase to $14 that has made a world of difference for millions of workers in Ontario.
As we take stock of these changes, $15 and Fairness UofT is here to say, loud and clear: our collective resistance will only get stronger and stronger.
It's summertime, and with that comes an exciting organizing momentum thanks to both the sun and a rapidly expanding decent work movement! Join us on Thursday May 16th to get involved in planning our summer activities on (and off!) campus. This summer, we are especially focusing on strengthening our relationships with high school student organizers and young climate justice activists. ☀️
After our meeting, at 7:30 pm we will head to a bar (TBD) for some much-deserved food and drinks! Come by and chat with us about what we're up to and where we're going!
