Join us for the first Toronto organizing meeting of 2019.
Despite the setback with Doug Ford’s Bill 47, we protected modest but important gains for workers. However, Ford tabled new and dangerous legislation – Bill 66 – that cuts important regulations and threatens to make it harder for workers to unionize and to get proper overtime pay for duly-worked hours.
Meanwhile, the Federal government has taken some modest but crucial steps toward legislating $15 and Fairness for federally-regulated workers (those who work in sectors that cross provincial borders such as telecommunications, banking, airlines, shipping, transportation, and more). As of January 1, 2019, almost 900,000 federally-regulated workers across Canada will have the legislated right to three (3) paid sick days; and to equal pay for equal work for part-time, contract, and temporary workers. If the experience in Ontario is any indication, we will need to fight hard to protect and extend these wins.
Let’s build on our impressive work to date, join us on Tuesday, January 15 – and bring a friend or co-worker!
