Phone Your MP! Federal government must extend COVID-19 income supports

Almost a million workers are depending on the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), the Canada Recovery Caregivers Benefit (CRCB), and temporary Employment Insurance measures. But these income supports will end in March and the government has failed to say what will happen next.

The federal government must extend income support until at least December 31, 2021, and make permanent improvements to Employment Insurance. Send an email to your Member of Parliament and to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

☎️Take a moment to call your elected representative! ☎️
The Federal government must act now. We need a just recovery for all workers.

WHAT TO SAY:
Tell your Member of Parliament that you support the call for an extension and improvements to the special Canada Recovery Benefits and temporary Employment Insurance supports until at least December 31 or until the pandemic is over.

WHO TO CALL:
Type your postal code here to find the number of your MP.

HOW TO MAKE EVEN MORE NOISE:
Snap a selfie or film yourself in action to post with the hashtag #JustRecovery4All to challenge others to do the same! If you can, tag your Member of Parliament in your post to make sure they see it (and tag us so we can share it)!

SUGGESTED SCRIPT:
Hi (name of the Member of Parliament), my name is _______ and I am one of your constituents.

  • Millions of workers are depending on the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), the Canada Recovery Caregivers Benefit (CRCB) and the temporary Employment Insurance measures
  • For many of these workers, the benefits are set to expire at the end of March
  • The government must extend income supports until at least December 31, 2021, and make improvements to Employment Insurance
  • We need to also address barriers that are leaving migrant and undocumented workers, and international students behind
  • Right now workers are only scrapping by on these benefits and we can do a lot better
  • Please take action to ensure that workers are not waiting until the last minute to find out where their next pay cheque will come from

As community members, we need to speak out to have elected officials hear our voices!
