Join us for the one year anniversary of the eve of the college strike and fight back against cuts to quality and fairness in Ontario's colleges!
College faculty went on strike a year ago for fairness, good jobs and quality education. Our efforts helped secure equal pay legislation that is delivering fairer pay for contract faculty and workers across Ontario. We also won a College Task Force that was established to address precarious work and collegial governance -- two of our main issues. Now, all of this is at risk.
Premier Ford has announced his intention to roll back equal pay laws, and his government has cancelled the College Task Force. We are also weeks away from getting a $15 minimum wage in Ontario, which is scheduled by law to kick in on January 1, 2019. Under pressure by corporate lobby groups, the government has started talking about cancelling this increase, along with other new rights such as paid sick days.
