Millions of workers across Canada are going to lose the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) at the end of August. But the pandemic is not over and many of us work in sectors that have either opened up a little or are not expected to open for months.
On Monday, July 20 at 2:00 PM (EDT), will you join workers from across the country to discuss ways that we can make sure CERB is extended? WE NEED TO ACT NOW! (scroll below to register) So many of us need this benefit to pay for housing and take care of our families. We cannot survive on a shift or two per week or without any form of support during this pandemic.
Remember, in response to public pressure, the Trudeau government did improve who would qualify for CERB and extended it by 8 weeks as well. Together, we can get them to act again, so no worker gets forced back to unsafe work in order to make ends meet.
During this Emergency Meeting, we will hear directly from workers who work in tourism, hospitality, personal services, food services, travel and entertainment who will report back on when these jobs are expected to return in full. We will hear and talk about what WE can do to make sure that everyone has the support they need.
Register now to receive the log-in information to the briefing. You can join online or dial in by phone. See you on Monday, July 20!
